Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" Abalos Jr. led on Wednesday, June 12, other officials in the 126th Independence Day anniversary celebration at the Andres Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan City.
“Kinikilala si Andres Bonifacio bilang Ama ng Himagsikang Pilipino dahil isa siya sa mga nangunang nag-aklas laban sa mga mananakop na Espanyol (Andres Bonifacio is known as the father of the Philippine revolution because he was one of those who led the fight against the invading Spaniards)," Abalos stressed.
In his message, Abalos urged the public to recall and honor the country’s heroes for their courage, bravery and love for the motherland to gain our country’s independence.
At present, Abalos stated that the "Herculean" task of fighting illegal drugs, criminality, corruption and other ills of the society still linger which cause huge sufferings in the country.
As the Independence Day was celebrated, Abalos called on the people to unite and ensure that the freedom that the country enjoys will always be secured and protected.
