The high-flying guard is suiting up for the Philippines for the first time since his Gilas Pilipinas stint in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Since then, Abando resumed his club duties with the Anyang Red Boosters in the Korean Basketball League, where he was unable to completely display his competitive form after sustaining a back injury in December last year.

Though Abando made a triumphant return three months later in the Korean league and East Asia Super League, the 26-year-old guard has decided to part ways with Anyang after two seasons.

In his rookie year as a professional, the former NCAA standout won three titles with Anyang the KBL championship, KBL regular season title and the East Asia Super League crown.

With no club prospects yet, Abando has his sights set on giving the Philippines its seventh title in the pocket tournament as he joins forces with Japan B. League free agent Kiefer Ravena, RJ Abarrientos, Ange Kouame and Jordan Heading.
