Malacañang announced this on Tuesday, June 11. However, no further details were provided, including why the President himself could not attend.

It can be recalled that the Palace confirmed on June 3 that the Philippines will participate in the Swiss-organized peace conference but did not disclose if Marcos will attend, saying it has yet to be finalized.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Manila on June 3, and during their meeting he thanked Marcos for the Philippines' registration in the peace summit—an effort to achieve peace amid the Ukraine-Russia war.

Zelenskyy then told Marcos that the country's participation in the peace summit is a "very strong signal."

Prior to the Ukrainian leader's Manila visit, the Ukrainian government expressed hopes that Marcos would join the summit, saying that the Philippine government's participation in the process  "is highly valued as it can offer fresh insights and strengthen the collaborative effort needed to resolve conflicts."
