The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Palawan at 2:58 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located 91 kilometers (km) southeast of the municipality of Roxas in Palawan province, with a depth of 26 km beneath the epicenter.
Phivolcs initially measured the quake at magnitude 4.7.
It was felt as a "weak" tremor at Intensity III in Roxas, Palawan, while it was “scarcely perceptible” at Intensity I in Cuyo and Narra, Palawan.
Phivolcs attributed the earthquake to tectonic activity, which indicates a movement along an active fault in the area.
It also warned about potential aftershocks following the event.
