A social media post by Leyte Tourism said that the decision to close is part of their commitment to providing a beautiful and well-maintained park for all visitors.

"We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to enhance the park's facilities and ensure a memorable experience for everyone."

MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park, popularly known as MacArthur Park, holds significant historical importance for Leyte.

It is home to the renowned bronze statue of Gen. Douglas MacArthur commemorating his historic return to the country on October 20, 1944, during World War II.

The statue stands alongside figures of his Filipino companions, including then President Sergio Osmeña, Gen. Carlos Romulo, and four other soldiers.

The park situated in Barangay Candahug, approximately three kilometers from the town proper, was declared a National Historical Landmark in 2004.
