The 8x16 feet cake, made by Barangay Malamig Chairperson Cynthia Caluya and her team, including Barangay Nutrition scholars, used 810 pieces of chocolate cake, carrot cake, and banana cake, all mixed with micronutrient powders (MNPs).
Mandaluyong City Mayor Ben Abalos and Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos led in the distribution of the cake to pregnant women and children of the city.
The city government explained the creation of the cake is part of the campaign of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) and the Department of Health (DOH) which promotes micronutrient supplementation and food fortification to combat malnutrition in the country.
It added that the cake was designed like the Philippine flag to celebrate the country's 126th Independence Day.
The city's children were also given oral vitamins.
