The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has ordered all distribution utilities (DUs) in the Luzon and Visayas grids to delay charging consumers preliminary generation charges.
In a statement, ERC said on Tuesday, June 10, that DUs should wait until the release of the final statement (FS) by the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP).
The ERC said this directive aims to ensure accurate billing for the amounts related to purchases from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).
ERC’s order follows the suspension of market operations for the Luzon and Visayas grids after multiple Red and Yellow Alerts in May.
During the market shutdown periods, the administered Price or the Secondary Price Cap (SPC) was implemented.
The ERC noted that the preliminary statement is subject to final changes based on evaluations of the effects of the AP and SPC applications.
It is expected that the WESM charges under the FS will be significantly lower than those indicated in the Preliminary Statement (PS).
