Remogat, the newest recruit of the UP Fighting Maroons, sank a step-back deuce with 16.5 seconds left to stun the hometown bets and give the National their first win in the regional competition.

The 5-foot-10 combo guard scored five of his six points down the stretch for the Philippines after they went down, 15-18, with under two minutes remaining.

Art Roque and Patrick Sleat cashed in nine and five points, respectively, while Wei Zhang topscored with 10 for China in a losing effort.

The moment, however, was spoiled by Japan as it humbled Gilas 21-17, in the second game.

Haruaki Tanaka showed the way for the Japanese as he listed eight points while Takumi Shimokawa put up six.

Sleat tried to rally the Filipinos with his seven points along Remogat’s four but still weren't enough to overcome the powerhouse Japan.

Meanwhile, Gilas Women, composed of Kaye Pingol, Angelica Surada, Kristine Cayabyab and Camille Clarin, suffered losses to China (16-19) and Japan (14-20).
