ILOILO CITY — The inflation rate in Western Visayas jumped to 4.3 percent last May.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-6 said the inflation rate jumped 0.2 percent from 4.1 percent in April.
Nida Amolar, PSA-6 officer-in-charge and chief statistical specialist, attributed the increase in last month's inflation to transportation costs which was 3.8 percent from 3.1 percent in April.
Other contributing factors were housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels.
The island-province of Guimaras still has the highest inflation rate in Western Visayas at seven percent from 6.8 percent in May.
The inflation rate here increased last month but this city remains to have the lowest at 1.3 percent.
Antique province has an inflation rate in May with 5.7 percent, 4.7 percent in Iloilo, 4.5 percent in Aklan, 4.5 percent in Bacolod City,
4.4 percent in Capiz, and 4.2 percent in Negros Occidental.
