Recent rainfall in Luzon failed to raise water levels at Metro Manila's two primary water sources, west zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. said.
According to the latest monitoring report from Maynilad as of Monday, June 10, both the Angat and Ipo dams experienced a decrease in water levels, falling below their respective minimum operating levels.
The water level at Angat Dam now stands at 178.08 meters, a decline from 178.89 meters recorded a week ago, and it is almost two-meters below the minimum operating level of 180 meters.
Additionally, Ipo Dam's current water level is at 100.45 meters, a decrease from the previous week's level of 100.58 meters, and it is below the maintaining level of 101 meters.
“Although there have been some rains in recent days, the water level at Angat Dam continues to slightly decrease, which is why it remains below the minimum operating level,” Maynilad said.
Last May 29, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced the start of the rainy season.
Moreover, Pagasa declared that the El Niño phenomenon has ended last week.
“Even though the El Niño phenomenon has officially ended following Pagasa’s announcement last week, the rainfall in recent days has not been sufficient to replenish the said dams,” Maynilad said.
For this reason, Maynilad called on consumers to use water responsibly.
“Regardless of the prevailing weather conditions in the country, everyone is still encouraged to participate in the responsible use of water to ensure a more sustainable water supply,” the concessionaire said.
