New LPA expected to bring rains to various parts of the country — PAGASA
The cloud cluster, which was being monitored by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) east of Mindanao, had formed into a low pressure area (LPA) on Monday afternoon, June 10.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Veronica Torres said the LPA was located 135 kilometers east of Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, at 3 p.m. on Monday.
Torres added that the weather disturbance has only a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 to 48 hours.
While cyclone development is less likely, she said the LPA may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Agusan del Norte.
PAGASA warned that flash floods or landslides may occur in these areas due to moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, may experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also warned the public about possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
