Lightning strike kills mining site employee

TACLOBAN CITY – A 33-year-old employee of a mining site was killed in a lightning strike on Monday, June 10, in Barangay Cagusu-an, Homonhon Island, Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

The victim was identified as Aljon, 33, in charge of equipment monitoring at the mining site, and a resident of Barangay Casuguran, Homonhon.

Aljon and his colleagues were seeking shelter from the rain in a duplex cottage at the mining site. 

Two of them were using their cell phones when lighting struck the cottage.

Aljon and seven colleagues sustained burns from the lightning strike. They were taken to a hospital in Guiuan.

The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.
