Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin “Benhur’’ Abalos Jr. reminded all local government units (LGUs) to display the country’s flags in observance of the 126th Philippine Independence Day celebration on June 12.
In Memorandum Circular (MC) 2024-079, Abalos “enjoined’’ the provincial governors, city mayors, municipal mayors, punong barangays, DILG regional directors and other concerned parties to have the Philippine flag properly displayed in all offices and other establishments from May 28 to June 12 to celebrate the Philippine Independence rites.
He also asked the LGUs to participate in the observance in showcasing programs, projects and public service in the “Pampamahalaang Programa at Serbisyo’’ from June 10 to 12.
“All LGUs in Metro Manila are also encouraged to participate in the 2024 Independence Day Parade by sending 500 attendees wearing the official “Kalayaan 2024’’ shirts which the design may be downloaded through this link tinyurl.com/yc57w93y,’’ Abalos noted.
Abalos also directed all the DILG regional directors to “cause the immediate and widest dissemination of this memorandum circular to all LGUs within their respective assignments.’’
The DILG chief also stated that the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) leads the national commemoration of the 126th anniversary of the proclamation of the Philippine Independence, in collaboration with other government agencies, local government and other private sectors.
