The Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) has intercepted a shipment containing 323 grams of high-grade marijuana, or kush, with an estimated value of P4.5 million.
In a statement on Saturday, June 1, the BOC said the parcel, falsely labeled as a "gift," originated from Toronto, Canada, and was addressed to an individual in Quezon City.
Through meticulous profiling and examination, authorities discovered the concealed contraband inside the package, the bureau said.
Subsequent field tests conducted by the Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conclusively identified the substance as kush marijuana.
The intended recipient is now under investigation and faces legal repercussions for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in connection with the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio reiterated the BOC's commitment to intercept illegal drug imports and safeguard the country against the threats posed by illicit substances.
Led by District Collector Yasmin O. Mapa, BOC-NAIA remained resolute in its mission to enforce stringent border control measures and prevent the entry of illegal drugs into the country.
The joint operation was in collaboration with the PDEA and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG).
