Warning: ‘Dangerously high’ heat index possible in 25 areas on May 10


The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said 25 areas may still experience a heat index that is considered “dangerous” on Friday, May 10.

PAGASA warns that a dangerous heat index ranges from 42 degrees Celsius (°C) to 51°C, which means a person is more likely to experience heat-related issues like cramps and exhaustion and a higher chance of heat stroke with continued activity.

On Friday, the heat index in Virac, Catanduanes may reach 45°C, while it may reach 44°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; and Roxas City, Capiz.

PAGASA added that San Jose, Occidental Mindoro and Guiuan, Eastern Samar may have a heat index of 43°C.

Meanwhile, a 42°C heat index may be recorded in Ninoy Aquino International Airport Station in Pasay City; Iba, Zambales; Central Luzon State University, Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City; Sangley Point, Cavite; Infanta, Quezon; Alabat, Quezon; Aborlan, Palawan; Cuyo, Palawan; Legazpi City, Albay; Masbate City, Masbate; Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, Pili, Camarines Sur; Mambusao, Capiz; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Dumangas, Iloilo; Catarman, Northern Samar; Catbalogan, Samar; Tacloban City, Leyte; and Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte.

On April 28, Iba, Zambales recorded the highest heat index this year at 53°C.
