They were presented to the media in a press conference in Camp Osito Bahian here on Wednesday, May 8.
Among the surrenderers were Mae Lou Jean Sin-ingan, alias Jelyn and Imay, 26, a regional medical staff of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee, and her husband, Loloy Han-ayan.
Sin-ingan, of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, who dreamed of becoming a doctor, said she was enticed to join the communist movement through the free medical skills training they offered.
She said that she was 17 then and was taught such skills to serve the people on the ground.
Sin-ingan said she is a daughter of a retired soldier and her parents were dismayed after learning that she joined the communist group.
“Naghilak gyud siya kay dili siya makatuo nga moadto gyud ko sa kalihokan (They cried, they couldn't believe I joined the movement),” she recalled.
Sin-ingan met Han-ayan, alias Pangkoy, in the movement, were married, and she recently gave birth to a baby girl.
Pangkoy, 26, a resident of Malaybalay City, said he joined the NPA at the age 17 after he was convinced to fight for the rights of farmers of which his family was one.
However, after their long sacrifices and the undue leadership they experienced, the couple decided to return to the fold of the law.
The couple said they want to build a better life for their daughter.
