Filipino-made products have reached new highs in recent years as more Filipinos continue the clamor for supporting local goods. Now in its fourth year, Kultura’s Filipino Design Studio sheds light on several local artisans, both from established brands and those emerging from the market. Running until May 9 at the SM Megamall Fashion Hall, here are some items you can’t miss at the pop-up market.
Accessories galore
Dazzle crowds and be the center of attention whenever you enter the room through various handmade accessories. There’s the handcrafted statement jewelry made with pearls, wood, resin, and more by Virtucio Fashion Designs and Mjorian sure to catch anyone’s eyes. Brands like A-M and Ayesha Gemstones, Asnie, Asron, and Aurea Pearl are also a fresh catch (literally!) using freshwater pearls in creating jewelry. There are also several stores selling their own unique takes on the classic bayong.
Dress up to your heart’s content
Various clothing brands have come out to showcase their best fashion designs and styles. Two that stand out are And Again Clothing and Macopa for their outfits made from upcycled flour sacks. Handwoven outfits are also available from several stores, with each one being made from different textiles and made by various indigenous folks. Those searching for summer outfits can don any of the resort-ready fits by Hijo/La Obra, Intricado, and Islas Filipinas. Several stores are also offering timeless Filipino formalwear classics like the Barong Tagalog and Filipiniana.
Spice up your home life
Looking to add a Filipino touch to your home? Likha+Mundo offers home decor that helps support mom-and-pop craft businesses. Haspe Design Studio focuses on creating furniture from excess wood and locally sourced materials. If you’re hoping to add a zen factor to your home, consider trying aromatherapy through Wix Cozy Homes’ hand-poured candle brand. There are also a fair amount of self-care products like soaps and shampoos made from local, natural products perfect for stocking up your bathroom.
Feast on Filipino treats
Every Filipino loves food! Much to everyone’s delight, there are several food booths present this year. Booze enthusiasts are sure to enjoy Destileria Barako’s internationally award-winning ube cream liquor. Have a sweet tooth? Malagos Chocolate serves premium chocolates from Davao. Meanwhile, Kangkong King and Karne Litson Kawali offer salty snacks like chips made from kangkong and litson kawali.
