'Dangerous' heat index recorded in Pasay City, 25 other areas on May 9

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said 26 areas, including Pasay City, experienced a “dangerous” heat index on Thursday, May 9.
For the fourth consecutive day, Dagupan City, Pangasinan recorded the highest heat index at 47 degrees Celsius (°C).
A heat index of 46°C was also recorded in Virac, Catanduanes, 45°C in Guiuan, Eastern Samar, and 44°C in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Station, Pasay City; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Roxas City, Capiz.
PAGASA said Iba, Zambales; Sangley Point, Cavite; Cuyo, Palawan; Legazpi City, Albay; Masbate City, Masbate; and Iloilo City, Iloilo experienced a heat index of 43°C.
A 42°C heat index was also registered in Bacnotan, La Union; Central Luzon State University, Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City; Infanta, Quezon; Alabat, Quezon; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Aborlan, Palawan; Central Bicol State University of Agriculture Station, Pili, Camarines Sur; Dumangas, Iloilo; Catarman, Northern Samar; Tacloban City, Leyte; Maasin, Southern Leyte; Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.
PAGASA warned that heat indices between 42 degrees Celsius (°C) and 51°C indicate “danger,” as "heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely," and "heat stroke is probable with continued activity."
The heat index measures how hot it feels when relative humidity is combined with the actual air temperature.

On April 28, Iba, Zambales recorded the highest heat index so far this year at 53°C.
PAGASA said a heat index above 52°C indicates “extreme danger” as “heat stroke is imminent.”
