CBCP urges dioceses to participate in global prayer for peace on June 8

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Episcopal Commission on the Laity (ECL) head Bishop Severo Caermare has called on dioceses to dedicate a minute to reflect and pray for an “end to wars” that are plaguing the world.

Caermare pointed out that this year’s “One Minute for Peace” is “urgently needed” especially in  Israel, Palestine, Ukraine, and all over the world as the war keeps on going.

“On June 8, 2024, at 1 p.m., let us organize to unite in prayer for peace,” the bishop said on Wednesday, May 8.

According to CBCP, June 8 was chosen to commemorate the third anniversary of Pope Francis' meeting with late Israeli President Shimon Peres and Palestinian Mahmoud Abbas in the Vatican.

The International Forum of Catholic Action (IFCA) began the worldwide prayer effort for the first time around in 2014, and the Council of the Laity of the Philippines (CLP) is a member.
