A total of 60 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) arrived in the country on Thursday afternoon, May 8, as part of the repatriation initiative of the Philippine government amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and a militant Palestinian group.
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac welcomed the repatriated OFWs from Israel who arrived onboard Etihad Airlines flight EY424 and are considered as the largest group of OFWs to avail of the government’s voluntary repatriation program.
Those who arrived were provided with on-site medical and physical check-ups from the Department of Health (DOH), financial and comprehensive reintegration support worth P100,000 from the DMW and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
They were also given livelihood aid worth P20,000 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and skills training vouchers from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
The DMW and the Department of Foreign Affairs have been active in encouraging OFws in Israel to go home after hostilities broke out in October last year between Israel and the militant Palestinian group Hamas.
A total of 879 OFWs have come home since the government undertook repatriation.
