GENERAL LUNA, Quezon – Alona party-list Rep. Anna Marie Villaraza-Suarez said on Wednesday, May 8, that sectoral groups such as the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, and Queer (LGBTQ) community should be prioritized as beneficiaries for government aid.

“Sectoral groups are often the most vulnerable when it comes to crises, especially since they face multiple marginalization and discrimination in accessing public services. It is our duty as public servants to make these services inclusive and more accessible for our people,” Suarez said during the distribution of Assistance to Individuals/Families in Crisis Situation for beneficiaries from the Bondoc Peninsula here.
“Civil society and sectoral groups play crucial roles not only in our communities but also in the economy, contributing significantly to GDP employment and overall economic growth.”
The party-list group led by Suarez has been staunch advocates of government support for civil society and sectoral groups and organizations.
“When we support these sectors, we do not only help them free themselves from poverty. We also promote sustainability by creating multiplier effects on other industries and stimulate economic activity.”
