"We are very well prepared because Taal (Volcano) is always on the watch list," said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard "Dick" Gordon on the sidelines of PRC's "Earthquake Simulation Mass Casualty Exercise."

"In fact, the IFRC [International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies] goes there to see what's being done," Gordon said. "And our people are very used to it. So, we are coordinating with all the hospitals," he added.

Citing an example, Gordon said:  "If something happens, we have welfare people among the two million volunteers."

He added that there are welfare people who will go to the hospital. "They will check who needs blood, who needs medicine, who needs to be contacted by relatives. They are just there," he added.

On Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) announced that a weak phreatic or steam-driven eruption took place at the main crater of Taal Volcano between 8:27 a.m. and 8:31 a.m.
