P100,000 smuggled cigarettes intercepted


BACOLOD CITY – Police arrested a 45-year-old businessman for allegedly transporting four boxes of smuggled cigarettes worth P100,000 in a checkpoint in Barangay 1, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on Monday night, May 6.

Police Major Ryan Villasario, deputy chief of the San Carlos City Police Station, said the cigarettes were placed at the back of a pick-up truck.

Villasario said the suspect failed to present his license and pertinent documents for the cargo.

The businessman refused to reveal the source of the smuggled cigarettes.

He said they will turn over the matter to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for the filing of a complaint.
