'Connect the dots': Solon says Trillanes' ouster plot claim vs Marcos has basis

The alleged plot to unseat President Marcos as claimed by former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV appears to have gained some credence, according to Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong.

Adiong had this to say in a press conference on Wednesday, May 8, where he expressed caution on the proposed “concerted effort” from the critics of President Marcos.

“Connect the dots. You don’t need Senator Trillanes telling us all this. You just have to connect the dots,” he said.

The assistant majority leader said these malicious efforts started to kick in ever since the Philippines participated in the trilateral meeting with the United States (US) and Japan.

He also cited the ongoing hearing of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, where President Marcos himself was linked to illegal drugs based on supposed leaked confidential documents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Adiong says the hearing is politically motivated given that the allegations of former PDEA agent Jonathan Morales are only based on hearsay.

“If you look at the development after the trilateral agreement, there’s no way for you but to think that there is something deeper beyond what is happening in the committee hearing in the Senate,” noted Adiong.

The lawmaker said this also coincides with the series of political rallies presided over by former President Rodrigo Duterte and his close allies.

“Kumbaga (As if it's a) jigsaw puzzle, everything is coming into place and the picture now is very clear. It becomes clearer and clearer each day that they attack the administration,” he said.

Adiong, however, said the “big effort to destabilize this administration” is doomed to fail.

He said the Filipino people have given their trust to Marcos, as evidenced by the over 31 million votes he garnered during the May 2022 presidential elections.

“The trust rating of the President is relatively high. And the economy is doing well,” the solon said.
