The Universidad de Manila (UDM), led by Chairman and Mayor Maria Sheilah "Honey" H. Lacuna-Pangan, MD, FPDS, along with Vice Chairman and University President Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria, EdD, held an unveiling ceremony for the Ambassador Francis C. Chua bust to commemorate the donation made by the University’s Regent, Ambassador Francis C. Chua, on May 2, 2024, at the UDM reception lobby.
Ambassador Chua, Consul General of the Philippines to Peru, was honored for his exemplary contributions to the city government, funded higher education institutions, and the community at large. The ambassador donated three computer laboratories equipped with modern computer units, four computerized lecture rooms, including separate comfort rooms, classroom chairs, computer tables, high-tech lecture boards, all in fully air-conditioned rooms.
In her message, Mayor Lacuna profoundly thanked Ambassador Chua for his generosity. “Thank you very much, Regent Francis Chua, for your invaluable contribution to our university. Perhaps Regent Chua knows very well that the city government of Manila is fully capable of providing all our needs, so we are very fortunate that he became a member of the Board of Regents of the Universidad de Manila,” the mayor said in Filipino.
On his part, Ambassador Chua expressed his support for education, emphasizing that learning begins at home and that parents serve as the best example to their children by teaching them good values, attending Sunday masses, and showing respect to the elderly, which are fundamental aspects of Filipino culture. "Education is not just about attending school and studying; it's about applying what we learn. We need to use our education in the right way and use it to help our country. We need to contribute to the development of our nation," the ambassador said in Filipino.
The event was attended by Ambassador Chua's family, officials from the Manila City government, UDM representatives, and its students.
