No report of injured Pinoys in twin quakes that hit Taiwan, DMW says

Migrant Workers Offices in Taiwan have been placed under high alert after two strong earthquakes, both recorded 5.9 magnitude in the Richter Scale, hit the areas anew on Monday afternoon.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said that it is continuously monitoring the effects of the twin quakes on the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the affected areas in Taiwan.

But so far, it said it has not received any report of any injury on Filipinos.

“There are no immediate reports of injuries among overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), but MWOs in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung are reaching out to Filipino leaders, communities, employers, and trade associations to ascertain the status of OFWs,” the DMW said in a statement.

The DMW said it is now closely working with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO to monitor the situation.

Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported the first quake at 5:45 p.m.; the second followed seven minutes later at 5:52 p.m. Earthquakes have rocked the island since last month.
