2 motorcycle-riding men die after colliding with trailer truck in Tondo

Two men onboard a motorcycle died after hitting the back of a trailer truck in Tondo, Manila on Monday, May 6.

The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the victims as Richard Rivera and his passenger whose name has not yet been verified by the authorities.

The accident occurred around 12:20 a.m. along northbound lane of Mel Lopez Boulevard, corner Jacinto Street, Barangay 105, Vitas, Tondo Manila.

Based on the investigation, the trailer truck driver, identified as alias Wakray, was traveling northward of Mel Lopez Boulevard when it gradually stopped to give way to a pedestrian who was crossing the road.

Police said the victims' motorcycle, which was traveling on the same direction, hit the rear-right portion of the trailer truck. 

Witnesses said the motorcycle was going fast and crashed when the truck slowed down.

Due to the force of the impact, the victims were thrown off the motorcycle, hit the back of the trailer truck, then fell to the cemented pavement.

Authorities said the victims died on the spot.

Meanwhile, the truck driver was brought to police custody for investigation.
