BACOLOD CITY – A 63-year-old farmer was shot dead in Barangay Laga-an, Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Thursday, May 2.

Police Major Ronald Santillan, Calatrava police chief, said the victim was on his way to tend to his farm when his daughter heard several gunshots.
He was later found by his family lying on the ground with bullet wounds.
Police have yet to establish the motive or if the incident is insurgency-related but have gathered information that could help them in the investigation.
The New People’s Army recently owned up to the murder of a barangay tanod or watchman in Barangay Laga-an.
Santillan said the victim had no complaints or derogatory record in the barangay.
