DSWD-6 distributes P39-M food packs for El Niño-affected families


ILOILO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has released almost P39-million worth of food packs to families affected by the El Niño climate phenomenon in Western Visayas region.

“We are doubling our efforts in providing family food packs to affected families. Our angels in red vest will always do their best to help El Niño affected populace subsist this drought season,” said DSWD-6 Regional Director Carmelo Nochete.

The food assistance released by the DSWD-6 Disaster Response and Management Division (DRMD) has benefited 63,824 families in 39 cities and municipalities across Western Visayas as of May 2.

Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, received 29,167 food packs, followed by Antique with 15,934. Iloilo had 9,416 food packs; Aklan, 8,307; and Capiz, 1,000.

DSWD-6 DRMD chief Erlyn Garcia is continuously coordinating with local government units (LGUs) across Western Visayas region for assistance to families affected by El Niño.
