Bohol eases border controls vs ASF

CEBU CITY – The provincial government of Bohol has eased border controls enforced to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF).

Gov. Aris Aumentado issued an Executive Order (EO) removing the checkpoints at Dauis Bridge that connects Panglao Island to the mainland.

Aumentado issued an EO on April 18 that enforced strict border control after ASF cases were detected in three barangays in Dauis.

At the time, transporting of live pigs, cooked and uncooked pork, pork products, and by-products coming from Panglao Island to the mainland were prohibited.

In the latest EO issued on May 2, Aumentado noted the absence of an active ASF case 15 days after the last positive ASF infection in Dauis.

Purok 5 of Barangay Mayacabac and Purok 2 of Barangay Mariveles were identified as infected premises.

Barangay Biking and the rest of the puroks in Mayacabac and Mariveles were reclassified to ASF Quarantine Area-Level 2.

Those under ASF Quarantine Area-Level 2 will have disease surveillance and random blood sample collection for ASF testing along with information and education campaigns.

While border controls have been eased, movement of pigs going outside the municipality of Dauis shall require ASF negative test, livestock inspection certificate, and barangay certification showing where the hogs came from.

Pigs that will be slaughtered will also have to undergo ASF rapid testing to certify that they are infection-free.
