Marcos lauds VP Duterte's diligence in birthday message

Amid lines being drawn between the two political families, President Marcos cited Vice President Sara Duterte's diligence and love for the country as he penned a short message for her 46th birthday on May 31.
In a Facebook post, Marcos, who is on a Working Visit to Singapore hoped Duterte would continue working for a stronger education system.
"Happy Birthday, Inday Sara! Pinalalakas ng ‘yong sipag at pagmamahal sa bayan ang ating mga kabataan at kaguruan (Your diligence and love for the country has strengthened our youth and teachers)," he wrote.
"Ipagpatuloy lang natin ito para sa isang matatag na edukasyon sa ilalim ng Bagong Pilipinas (Let us continue this for a resilient education system under the Bagong Pilipinas)!" he added.
Duterte, who turned 46 on Wednesday, leads the Department of Education (DepEd). She also serves as the government's caretaker while the President is out of the country.
Marcos' greetings came following recent accusations hurled against his administration by the Vice President's father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, that the government was supposedly "stifling peaceful dissent" by preventing the Maisug rally in Tacloban City on May 25. However, Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez denied the allegations, saying the event was canceled due to the onslaught of Typhoon Aghon.
Despite these accusations, President Marcos said he continues to have trust and confidence in Vice President Duterte and decided to keep her as the DepEd Secretary.
However, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos has called out the Vice President and said the latter crossed the line when Duterte supposedly laughed when her father accused President Marcos of using drugs.
