CEBU CITY — The Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas (LTO-7) has trained over 100 policemen who are set to be deployed at the Trans Central Highway (TCH) in Balamban town, Cebu.

The deployment of policemen as LTO deputized agents is part of the efforts to address the increasing number of road crashes at TCH.
The policemen attended a deputation seminar last May 14 at the E.S. Binghay Memorial Sports Complex in Barangay Santa Cruz-Santo Niño, Balamban. The seminar was also in line with the observance of Road Safety Month.
LTO-7 regional director Glen Galario said the deployment of policemen at TCH is in coordination with the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) and the local government of Balamban.
"This partnership is through the efforts of Cebu Provincial Director Police Col. Percival Zorrilla and Balamban Mayor Ace Stefan Binghay who communicated to our office the plan to deputize police personnel and local enforcers of Balamban to minimize traffic-related incidents in TCH,” Galario said.
Galario said the seminar was one of the requirements for the policemen to become deputized agents of LTO.
A total of 114 police personnel, 10 personnel from the Balamban Traffic Management Office, and two from the Provincial Mobile Force Company attended the training.
Before the seminar, Zorrilla had called a meeting to gather stakeholders to discuss the current traffic situation at TCH.
Galario clarified that not all of those who attended the training can get a deputation authority.
"We will have to consult first on how many we can deputize to ensure that these deputation authorities will be used accordingly," said Galario.
LTO-7 Traffic Adjudication Section in charge Atty. Froilan Jay Suarez, Regional Training Officer Apollo Machachon, and the Traffic Safety Unit in charge presented the lecture needed for the deputation.
Binghay thanked LTO-7 for its quick response to his request to address the traffic-related issues in TCH.
"With the new LTO deputized regulation officers in Balamban, road safety and law enforcement will now surely be imposed. Rest assured that Balamban is supportive of the mandate of the LTO 7," said Binghay.
Galario recently issued the authority to deputize 14 patrol officers of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway.
Currently, LTO-7 has 224 deputized personnel who are authorized to apprehend erring motorists.
