Manila Water expands sewer network in Mandaluyong

East Zone concessionaire Manila Water Co. Inc. plans to expand its sewer service coverage along with its support in restoring Manila Bay by the fourth quarter of next year.

In a statement on Thursday, May 30, the expansion plan and restoration would be done through the construction of the Mandaluyong West Sewer Network Packages 3A and 3B, which are vital to the 52.5 kilometer Mandaluyong West-San Juan and South Quezon City Sewerage System (MandaWest project).

According to Manila Water, Package A will have a budget of P306 million, while Package B will have P494 million. This would mean an overall P4.2 billion worth of investments for the MandaWest project.

This budget would allow service improvements and water resource safeguarding within their utility reach, which in turn would be able to service 700,000 customers in Mandaluyong, Quezon City, and San Juan by 2037.

Corporate Communications Affairs Director Jeric Sevilla said that this project is vital to the company’s service goals, stating “Wastewater projects like MandaWest Packages 3A and 3B are important to Manila Water’s sustainability goals as we continue to expand our sewage and sanitation services to the entire East Zone.”

The MandaWest project will have over 60 million liters per day (MLD) sewage treatment plant that has a biological nutrient removal system, a major pump, 13 lift stations, 276 interceptor boxes, and a 16-channel interceptor.

“With this massive wastewater system project, the East Zone Concessionaire aims to support government sustainability initiatives such as the Clean Water Act and the Supreme Court Mandamus for the Rehabilitation and Protection of Manila Bay by ensuring wastewater from customers is properly collected and processed before being released to waterways,” Manila Water said.
