ILOILO CITY – Health authorities have intensified surveillance of the “FLiRT” Covid-19 variant here and the province of Iloilo.

The Iloilo City Health Office (ICHO) said that 98 Covid-19 cases here were recorded from January 1 to May 27, 2024.
The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) said that 295 Covid-19 cases were recorded in the province from January 1 to May 20, 2024.
The ICHO recorded a 325-percent increase in Covid-19 cases for a two-week period with 17 new cases from May 14 to 27.
The ICHO and IPHO urged the public to remain vigilant against Covid.
Dr. Roland Jay Fortuna, ICHO assistant chief, said those with higher health risk factors should be more careful as they might be infected with the new variant.
Dr. Ma. Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, chief of the IPHO, urged the public to be vigilant again, similar to the initial time of the pandemic.
Both health officials encouraged people to wear face masks, especially if they have respiratory diseases or have coughs and colds.
