The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, May 30 said rain showers will be more frequent in the afternoon or evening, and even in the early morning, across various parts of the country following the onset of the rainy season in the country.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Obet Badrina explained that the more frequent rain showers are caused by the southwest monsoon, or habagat, which is prevalent during the rainy season.
Over the next 24 hours, cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms are expected in the Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.
Meanwhile, the frontal system, a weather system in which warm and cold air merge, may bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms to the Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
PAGASA warned of potential flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains in areas affected by the habagat and frontal system.
The rest of the country will continue to experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
However, the public is warned that severe thunderstorms may result in flash floods or landslides.
Badrina said that although it is raining in some areas, warm weather is still possible until midday.
