Raymond Omboy Geoman, a graduate of the  Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U), had the highest passing rate with 95 percent.

Geoman, third in a brood of four, said topping the exam was something that he didn’t expect.

“Mixed feelings, it has not sunk in yet. I can say to myself that I had enough preparations but I did not expect to land on Top 1 given that this board exam is full of potential topnotchers,” Geoman said in Cebuano during an interview with local radio station dyLA.

The 23-year-old said poverty did not prevent him from achieving his goals.

“I am super thankful that I was able to get this achievement. My father is a construction worker and my mother is a plain housewife,” said Geoman.

Aside from Geoman, three other CIT-U graduates made it to the Top 10.

Marc Restie Sasan Laput was sixth with 93.05 percent and Paul Anthony Manabat Aliasut was seventh with 92.95 percent. Vijay Manuel de Guma was ninth spot with 92.75 percent.

Another graduate of a Cebu-based university was also in the Top 10. John Glenn Madrid Jacob, who graduated from the University of Cebu in Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM), was third with 94.10 percent.

According to the Professional Regulation Commission, 4,436 out of the 7,006 examinees passed the exam.
