National Teachers College makes historic shift to 100% renewable energy with Ayala's ACEN RES
As the National Teachers College (NTC) commemorates its near century-long dedication to education, the institution takes another pioneering step toward a sustainable future by transitioning to 100 percent renewable energy. This significant achievement was made possible through a strategic partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES).
“We are incredibly proud to partner with NTC in their journey towards a greener future. This collaboration serves as a powerful testament to the growing commitment of educational institutions to environmental responsibility. ACEN RES is firmly dedicated to empowering organizations like NTC with clean and sustainable energy solutions,” said ACEN President and CEO Eric Francia.

NTC’s shift to renewable energy was facilitated by the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), a government initiative empowering qualified power consumers to purchase electricity directly from licensed renewable energy suppliers like ACEN RES. This program fosters greater competition and often leads to more cost-effective energy procurement compared to traditional distribution utilities.
“At NTC, we believe that fostering environmental consciousness begins at home,” said Alfredo Ayala, president of NTC. “By embracing renewable energy, we not only set a positive example for future generations of educators, but also demonstrate our commitment to build a more sustainable tomorrow.”
Badge of honor
During the recent contract signing event held at the NTC campus in Manila, ACEN RES awarded the college the "Powered by Renewable Energy" badge in recognition of its decision to go 100 percent renewables. This makes NTC the first academic institution to receive such recognition.
ACEN's senior vice president for market transformation, Tony Valdez, said, "Part of our mission is to encourage more businesses to be sustainable. We believe that transitioning to renewable energy is a quick win for companies aspiring to accelerate their sustainability journey because power is among the primary drivers of cost and carbon emissions across industries. Thanks to the GEOP, customers no longer have to spend on installing new equipment like solar panels or worry about maintenance; they only need to choose a reputable and reliable energy partner like ACEN RES, and we will facilitate their switch without any disruption to their operations in the process."
