Marcos aware of Senate leadership change attempt but did not have a hand on it
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei—President Marcos bared he knew about the attempt to change the Senate leadership and he was informed "every step of the way" but he did not have a hand on it.

"When did I know? The minute…actually it was Senator Chiz the minute he started thinking about it, he already brought it up and he said I think I am going to try to be the SP (Senate President). 'What’s my situation and what do you think'," Marcos said in a post-visit briefing here on Wednesday, May 29.
While he was informed about the attempt to replace former Senate President Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri , Marcos made it clear that he did not speak to any of the parties.
The President, however, was informed about the state of the voting from the moment Senate President Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero brought it up to him for consultation.
"But, and, I did not speak to any parties at any point simply because I am out of town. If you remember, on that day, nung umaga (in the morning) I was asked if I will make a statement on the change of leadership and I said 'bakit nag-change na ba?' Sabi niya: Well, merong gumagalaw (why, has it changed? They said: Well, something is moving)," Marcos recalled.
"And when I landed back in Manila about 3 or 4 in the afternoon, tsaka lang, tapos na, nag change na, nag-step down na si Senator Migz (it was done. It has changed. Senator Migz already stepped down). That’s how I was basically informed every step of the way. But it moved so quickly as well," he went on.
Marcos also bared that he was also informed when the votes were still being collected.
"But of course we knew the state of the voting when that was still being, when that was still being collected, the votes were still being collected by Senator Chiz. Alam na namin kung ano ‘yong lalabas na numero (We already know the number that would come out). So that extent I was informed about it," he said.
When asked if he still trusts Zubiri, the Chief Executive said yes, and that the change in the leadership does not reflect his confidence in him.
"Sure. Of course. The decision. The decision to change the leadership was not made by me. It was made by the Senate. So that does not reflect my view on Senator Migz and the trust and confidence that in my view that I have for him," Marcos said.
It can be recalled that on May 20, Escudero assumed the position as Senate President, replacing Zubiri, who tendered his resignation.
