LTO issues SCO vs black Mercedes Benz owner in fatal Makati road rage
Authorities have identified the registered owner of the black Mercedes Benz involved in a fatal shooting incident in Makati City in what witnesses said was a result of another road rage.
On Wednesday, May 29, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against the registered owner from Las Piñas City based on the statements of the witnesses who were able to get its license plates.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the owner of the car was asked to appear before the LTO-NCR office to explain the incident with a notarized affidavit.
“Furthermore, please be informed that the Mercedes Benz with Plate No. BCS77 will be placed under alarm pending investigation,” Mendoza said, citing a portion of the SCO signed by LTO-National Capital Region Regional Director Roque Verzosa III.
The two violations cited in the SCO are Reckless Driving under Joint Administrative Order 2014-01, and Improper Person and to Operate a Motor Vehicle under Republic Act 4136, the latter is punishable with cancellation of a driver’s license.
Mendoza said the LTO action is more on administrative cases, stressing that the criminal cases pertaining to the shooting incident are separately being investigated by the Philippine National Police.
Based on the police report, the Toyota Innova was travelling along the southbound lane of EDSA on Tuesday afternoon when its driver got into a road rage with the driver of the Mercedes Benz near the Ayala tunnel in Makati City.
The driver of the Mercedes Benz allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the driver of the Innova later identified as 65-year old Aniceto Mateo who died due to a fatal bullet wound.
Police recovered a cartridge for a .40 caliber pistol.
Police investigators identified the registered owner of the car after verification with the LTO.
Mendoza said they closely coordinated with the PNP after investigators sought for assistance in the identification of the registered owner of the Mercedes Benz based on the account of the witnesses.
“Upon the request ng PNP, we immediately extend our assistance in the identification of the vehicle owner and on our part, we issued an SCO against the registered owner,” said Mendoza.
