2 men drown in Pangasinan, Isabela


SAN FABIAN, Pangasinan – A 56-year-old man drowned after he was carried away by the waves while sleeping on the shoreline of Barangay Nibaliw Vidal here on Tuesday. 

Police identified the victim as June Lee Celino Montes, a resident of Bokod, Benguet.

Investigation said the victim got drunk after a drinking spree with his neighbors.

Montes went to the shoreline to sit down. The victim allegedly fell asleep and carried away by strong waves.

His companions later on found him floating on the shoreline. 

Montes was taken to the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City, Pangasinan where he was declared dead.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old bachelor drowned on the Magat River in Barangay San Roque, San Mateo, Isabela on Monday, May 27.

The victim identified as Benjie Marcelo.

Police said the victim dived into the river during a picnic with relatives.

Marcelo was carried away by the strong current to the deep portion of the river and drowned.

His body was recovered by rescuers in an eight-meter-deep portion of the river.
