PH flag a symbol of our identity - Gov. Fernando

Governor Daniel R. Fernando led Bulakenyos on Tuesday, May 28, in proudly waving and honoring the Philippine flag, saying that it is a symbol of the Filipinos' identity, as the nation marked National Flag Day.

With the theme, “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan,” Fernando said the national flag is not just a piece of cloth but more a sacred symbol of Filipino ideals and traditions and represents sovereignty as a nation.
The flag-raising ceremony, the singing of the national anthem, the Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat, were conducted and participated in by Vice Gov. Alexis C. Castro, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the Provincial Government of Bulacan department heads headed by Provincial Administrator Antonette V. Constantino.
 

Fernando said the Philippine flag is a symbol of Philippine history and identity. He said the red, white, and blue colors, along with the sun with eight rays and three stars, remind people of the courage, peace, and unity of the Filipino race. 

He added that Bulacan, as one of the eight provinces that revolted against the rule of the Spaniards and fought for independence, continues to show the spirit of heroism and love for the native land.

Fernando said flags will be displayed in all government agencies, offices, businesses, schools, and homes from May 28 to June 12.
 

He reminded the youth on the rules and prohibitions stated in the “Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines” or Republic Act No. 8491.

“We must always stand guard to defend the dignity, respect, and reverence of the Philippine flag, the national anthem, and other national symbols, which are the expressions of our nationhood and the principles of national solidarity.
