President Marcos said Tuesday, May 28, he will invite the new Singaporean leaders to visit the Philippines in a bid to strengthen the relationship between the two neighboring nations.
In his speech before departing for a two-leg visit to Brunei and Singapore, Marcos said he will take the opportunity to encourage the Singaporean leadership to come to the country to celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations.

"This is also very useful as they have just changed the leadership," he said.
On May 15, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong took office after replacing Lee Hsien Long. Meanwhile, Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam won the presidency and immediately assumed the role in September 2023.
"The leadership has just shifted in earlier this month and it will be very, very good to begin immediately to start to strengthen our relations with the new leaders of Singapore," Marcos said.
Marcos departed Manila for Brunei on Tuesday for a state visit before proceeding to Singapore to deliver a keynote speech at the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue that will start on May 31.
The President stressed the importance of making known the Philippines' stand on various regional issues—the first for a Philippine president—as "it is a dialogue about security and defense concerns, amongst several foreign ministers, defense ministers."
"I think it is extremely timely that I attend and put forward and articulate the Philippines' perspectives and outlook on defense and diplomacy while we continue to highlight the Philippines' commitment to a rules-based international order and constructive multilateralism amidst the current geopolitical challenges that we face in our region," he said.
