Instead of asking for money from other people, a 70-year-old man in Antipolo City chose to sell goods, despite his age and the scorching heat, just to earn money to support his family and buy their maintenance medicines.

In a social media post of Aljexis Jennae Lu on April 26, she asked netizens to help Tatay Alex, the vendor from Antipolo City, who sells peanuts and garlic products and even peddles his wares by walking to the nearby towns of Rizal. It was in Cainta, Rizal, where Lu saw him.
According to Lu, Tatay Alex only earns P50 from every P200 that he is able to sell.
Lu narrated that Tatay Alex often goes around and sells his products at noontime when the heat becomes terribly unbearable. He often just sits down whenever he gets dizzy and seeks cover in the shades.
Lu learned that Tatay Alex is living with his wife and their four grandchildren.
Despite his age and because of the five people that depend on him, Tatay Alex bears the long trek and scorching heat, even low income, just to be able to bring home money for his family's food and othe rnecessities.
Tatay Alex's two children already have families and live far from them. His daughter, the mother of the four grandchildren living with Tatay Alex, is working in Manila.
“Sinisikap niyang maghanapbuhay kesa manlimos despite his age at karamdaman. Matagal na dumadaan dito si tatay, ngayon ko lang navideohan para kung may iba pong gustong tumulong… any help will do and will be much appreciated. (He tries to earn a living instead of begging despite his age and illness. Tatay Alex has been passing by here for a long time, but I just took a video of him now so that others who want to help can see it),” Lu wrote.
Lu said that Tatay Alex's wife is also selling peanuts despite having a mild stroke before.
On Tuesday, May 28, Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares said that the story of Tatay Alex had reached him and deeply touched his heart.
He ordered the city's social workers to conduct an assessment and find out how they can help Tatay Alex and his family.

After getting the assessment of the city's social workers, Ynares decided to provide Tatay Alex and his family with a monthly financial assistance from the city government.
They also brought some grocery packs and delivered these to his home in Ponderosa, Barangay San Roque in Antipolo.
Ynares added that the family will also be scheduled for a check-up and further medical assistance.
He also said that the city government will provide them with livelihood assistance and help them look for a place where Tatay Alex and his wife can sell their wares safely.
The mayor thanked Lu for sharing Alex's story which paved the way for other people with kind hearts to give their help.
“Salamat kay Aljexis at sa concerned citizens na nagtulong-tulong, in kind and in cash, para kay Tatay Alex at sa kaniyang pamilya. Salamat din sa MedGen Pharmacy na nagbigay ng libreng gamot pang-maintenance nila tatay at nanay (Thanks to Aljexis and the concerned citizens who helped in kind and in cash for Tatay Alex and his family. Thanks also to MedGen Pharmacy who provided free maintenance medicine for them),” Ynares said.
“Tututukan po natin ang kalagayan ng pamilya. Titiyakin nating maihahatid sa kanila ang ating mga programang angkop para sa kanilang mga pangangailangan (We will monitor Tatay Alex's family and make sure that programs that are suitable for their needs are delivered to them),” he added.
