House Speaker Martin Romualdez had nothing to do with the failure of the former president Rodrigo Duterte-led "Maisug" (brave) prayer rally to push through in Tacloban City, Leyte.
Thus, said Deputy Majority Leader Tingog Party-list Rep. Jude Acidre, a staunch ally of Romualdez in the House of Representatives.
(They're probably looking for a justification as to why only a few people made it, right? If you ask me, we had nothing to do with it, the Speaker had nothing to do with it.)
Acidre was referring to the Maisug prayer rally that had been scheduled in Tacloban last Saturday, May 25. The event was canceled after it drew a paltry number of supporters
Tacloban is the capital of Leyte, Romualdez's bailiwick. He represents Leyte's 1st district in the House.
The deputy majority leader mocked the Maisug protesters, who were expected to hold an anti-administration rally instead of one about prayers and peace.
Duterte, who was supposed to attend the event, has been a vocal critic of President Marcos.
Wala naman akong naririnig na panalangin,” the party-list solon said.
(Let's not use these activities as a way to disrespect our honorable leader. Their past rallies had more curses in them. I've never heard any prayers.)
Acidre also branded as absurd the accusation of rallyists that the Marcos administration had a hand in restricting aircraft schedules at Tacloban airport, which supposedly affected the turnout.
On top of this, the lawmaker revealed that Maisug rallyists did not apply for a permit.
(Based on the information that reached us, they didn't really apply for a permit. The only notification they sent the provincial government was that they will use the freedom park. As far as I know there had been a booking as early as May 10, somebody applied for the roadshow with the heavy equipment.)
