Guiao has deep understanding on what it would actually take to be a champion, and it starts with proper mentoring to his young players.

Despite the semis loss to the defending champions, he reminded his wards to just carry the important lessons and make use of the experience in the next conference.

"If we want to get deeper in the future conferences, we still need a few pieces of nalang, actually mabilis nga ang improvement ng process namin, so I think that's the takeaway," Guiao said.

"Kailangan nilang ma-experience 'yong ganto, maexperience nila as young team na kung paano dumaan sa ganto and what it takes to be a team like San Miguel," he continued.

The 65-year-old tactician said he is glad to watch them compete, particularly his young guns who made a huge impact throughout the season.

“Yon nga ‘yong sinabi ko sa inyo na matutuwa ka do’n sa mga bata, sila Gian (Mamuyac), Santi (Santillan), Adrian (Nocum), Andre (Caracut), Anton (Asistio), Jhonard (Clarito) and si Keith (Datu), Guiao said.
