Despite the stormy weather conditions brought by Typhoon "Aghon," the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) recorded a new highest heat index since 2024 on Sunday, May 26.

In its latest bulletin, PAGASA said Guiuan, Eastern Samar recorded a heat index of 55 degrees Celsius (°C), which is 2°C higher than the 53°C recorded in Iba, Zambales on April 28.

This falls under the "extreme danger" effect-based classification, where heat stroke is "imminent."
Meanwhile, PAGASA said Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, recorded a heat index of 48°C, followed by MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte; Aparri, Cagayan; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur, at 46°C.
The heat index reached 45°C in Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Catarman, Northern Samar; Tacloban City, Leyte; Laguindingan Airport, Misamis Oriental; Surigao City, Surigao Del Norte; and Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte.

A heat index of 44°C was logged in Bacnotan, La Union; Virac (Synop), Catanduanes; and Borongan, Eastern Samar.
The heat index reached 43°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Cuyo, Palawan; Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental; Siquijor, Siquijor; Catbalogan, Samar; Maasin, Southern Leyte; and Dipolog, Zamboanga Del Norte.
Meanwhile, it reached 42°C in Calayan, Cagayan; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Panglao International Airport, Bohol; Mactan International Airport, Cebu; and Davao City, Davao Del Sur.
On May 26, 25 areas reached the "danger" heat index.
