DSWD extends aid to families affected by tropical storm 'Aghon'
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has allocated close to P1 million in aid to assist families affected by Tropical Storm “Aghon” in the Bicol region, an official from the Disaster Response and Management Group (DRMG) said on Sunday, May 26.
“The DSWD is working tirelessly in coordination with LGUs to ensure the timely distribution of relief goods and other essential services to the affected population,” said DSWD Secretary for DRMG and Spokesperson Irene Dumlao.
Dumlao said the DSWD, along with contributions from concerned local government units (LGUs), has extended P972,000 in assistance to affected families in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Sorsogon, with an additional P316,600 coming from the LGUs.
“The relief package includes food packs, hygiene kits, and other necessities to support the displaced families,” she said.
Dumlao said the agency is actively monitoring the areas affected by the tropical storm and maintaining close coordination with LGUs to deliver immediate and appropriate assistance.
Based on the latest report from the DSWD-DRMG, Aghon has affected 6,542 families, or about 8,200 individuals, across 22 barangays in the Bicol, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas regions.
“We have prepositioned more than 24,900 family food packs in the said regions which are available for distribution as the need arises,” Dumlao noted.
Meanwhile, the DSWD’s National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau (NLRMB) is preparing to dispatch additional food pack supplies to its Field Office 4A in Southern Luzon to augment the regional office’s disaster response capabilities.
