Carlo J. Caparas, award-winning director and comic strip creator, passes away

Carlo's death was confirmed by his daughter, Peachy Caparas, in a social media post entitled "Sa Bawa't Tipa Ng Makinilya: An ode to Direk Carlo J." on Saturday, May 26.

Award-winning director and comic strip creator Carlo J. Caparas has passed away. He was 80.

Carlo's death was confirmed by his daughter, Peachy Caparas, in a social media post entitled "Sa Bawa't Tipa Ng Makinilya: An ode to Direk Carlo J." on Saturday, May 26. The cause of his demise was not revealed.

Peachy's full post:

"Halos umaga na, sa libliban ng Ugong isang makinilya, pilitang binabasag ang katahimikan roon.

"Isang mananalaysay ng kwento ng buhay, nilalabanan ang antok, nagsusunog ng kilay.

"Sa kanyang taglay na brilyo mga obra maestrang nobela kanyang nabuo.

"Panday, Pieta, Elias Paniki, Bakekang, Totoy Bato ang ilan lamang sa mga ito.

"Sa larangan ng komiks siya ang naghari, naging bahagi ng kultura, naging yaman ng lahi.

"Umabot sa lona ng pinilakang tabing, hinangaan, pinalakpakan ng bayang magiting.

"Subalit buhay ay sadyang may wakas…

“Pack up na Direk”. Oras na ng uwian.

"Hayaang kasaysayan ang humusga sa iyong mga obra.

"Salamat Direk Carlo J. sa mga dibuho at istorya.

Peacy announced that the official wake will start on Monday, May 27, 2024, from 12 pm to 12 midnight, at the Golden Haven Memorial Chapels and Crematorium, Villar Sipag, C5 Extension Road, Brgy. Manuyo Dos, Las Pinas. Chapel name is Conservatorio II.

Flowers are welcome to be received as early as today, May 26.
