ILOILO CITY – The 3rd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, which covers Western and Central Visayas regions, recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

“As we honor our past achievements, we are also looking forward to a future that demands even greater commitment and innovation,” said Major Gen. Marion Sison, 3rd Infantry Division commander.
“The world is changing rapidly, and so is the nature of the threats we are facing. We will adapt and evolve to stay ahead. Our mandate remains clear: To safeguard our nation and to support the vision of the government,” said Sison during the ceremony last week in Camp Peralta, the 3rd ID headquarters in Jamindan town, Capiz province.
During the ceremony, Sison presented the achievements of key units to Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, Army commanding general.
From January 2023 to May 23, 2024, Army units in Panay, Negros, and Siquijor Islands confiscated 261 firearms from the New People’s Army (NPA) – 119 high-powered and 42 short firearms.
The 3rd ID also handed out awards to outstanding troopers.
Awarded as Outstanding Officers of the Year were Major Jayrod Cabahug, commanding officer of the D Company of the 47th Infantry Battalion (IB); 1st Lt. Edmundo Bugaay, platoon leader of the 31DRC; 1st Lt. Marie Louise Pernito of the 62nd 1B, 1st Lt. Ruben Hali, commanding officer of the C Company of the 94th 1B; 2nd Lt. Frenz Jarey Gonzales, platoon leader of C Company of the 79th 1B, and 2nd Lt. Romeo Soldevilla, platoon leader of the C Company of the 61st 1B.
Awarded as Outstanding Enlisted Personnel for their feats in combat were Sgt. Marvin Sambrana of the 61st IB, Sgt. Leo Dumayac of the 47th IB, Sgt. Jessie Empic of the 62nd IB, Sgt. Roldan Remolano of the 79th IB, Sgt. Nicko de Leon of the 94th IB, and Sgt. Pablito Foscablo of the 61st IB.
