Tropical Depression Aghon slightly weakened after its sixth landfall over Masbate City, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, May 25.
In its 2 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said “Aghon” has maximum sustained winds of 45 to 155 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 70 kph.
PAGASA told Manila Bulletin that it made landfall at 10:20 a.m. on Ticao Island and at 10:40 a.m. in Masbate City, marking its sixth landfall location.
While moving west-northwestward over Sibuyan Sea and Tayabas Bay, PAGASA said it may make landfall over Marinduque within the next 12 hours.
PAGASA noted that Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remained hoisted over Aurora, the eastern portion of Nueva Ecija, the eastern portion of Bulacan, Metro Manila, Quezon including Pollilo Islands, Romblon, Laguna, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, Batangas, Sorsogon, Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, and Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands.
The northern portion of Northern Samar Biri, San Isidro, Capul, San Vicente, Victoria, Lavezares, San Antonio, San Jose, Allen, and Bobon were still under Signal No. 1.
PAGASA advised that flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in highly or very highly susceptible areas.
Meanwhile, PAGASA added that Aghon might bring moderate to rough seas over the coastal waters along the Bicol Region, Quezon, the eastern seaboard of Eastern Visayas, and the western seaboard of Samar and Northern Samar.
PAGASA cautioned to always take precautions while heading out to sea and to avoid navigation in these conditions.
